Mathematics is a subject that isn't well suited to learning from books and lectures. The reason is that math isn't simply a body of facts to be memorized. Rather, it is a way of thinking about the world: a search for patterns in numbers and geometry, and in nature itself.
To really understand what math is, you have to try doing it yourself, by experimenting with numbers and shapes, making guesses about what you observe, and testing your ideas. Math is a lot like solving puzzles, such as Soduku or a Rubix cube, but the puzzles are far more varied and challenging.
The purpose of this site is to provide interactive tools for exploring mathematics.
